The Dresden Dolls Haunt Irving Plaza

by Kaitlyn Piccoli on October 31, 2010
The Dresden Dolls play Irving Plaza on Halloween night.

The Dresden Dolls play Irving Plaza on Halloween night.

Fronted by Amanda Palmer, who describes the duo’s sound as “something that goes from a childlike whisper to a banshee scream within a few seconds,” the Dresden Dolls are the reigning king and queen of punk cabaret. Palmer and band mate Brian Viglione have reunited after a two-year hiatus, when Palmer left to pursue Evelyn Evelyn, a concept album told through the perspective of Siamese twin sister circus performers. Since fans have waited with bated breath for any sign of a Dolls reunion, their kick-off show on Halloween night at Irving Plaza is bound to be an all-out freak fest, replete with stilt walkers and firebreathers. Then again, that’s just like any other Dresden Dolls show.
