Dax Shepard has been taking a break from his usual comedic identity and delving into more dramatic roles. His latest project “The Freebie” is a movie that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will open in limited theaters September 17.

“The Freebie” is an indie film about a married couple who decide to have one night of infidelity in the hopes that it will reignite passion in their own sex life. Kate Aselton co-stars and directs the film. Interestingly, it was shot in less than two weeks and had little to no script, forcing the actors to call upon their improvisational skills.
Shepard seems to be moving away from his “Punk’d” and “Baby Mama” comedic comfort zone, as he currently is on the family drama “Parenthood” on NBC.
