Tiger Woods is losing sponsors like crazy, but his wife, Elin Nordegren, may be signing a deal with Puma—the main competitor of Nike, one of Tiger’s few remaining sponsors.
An official from Puma has told TMZ they are in “internal discussions” to sign Elin as a spokesperson for a new Swedish-inspired clothing line called Tretorn, calling her “a good brand fit.”
Julian Stubbs, a global branding expert in Stockholm says Elin has become the “shining star” of the Tiger Woods saga in Sweden, but added that Tiger would eventually be accepted by the public again.
“Swedes as a society are pretty good at forgiving and forgetting,” Stubbs said. “Golf is a significant sport here and I actually think depending on what he decides to do and how he handles it, I think he could recover.
“I don’t think he will ever be quite the same again as a brand, as a marketable brand, but I think he’s capable of recovering.”
