Amos Lee @ the Hiro Ballroom
16th Street and Ninth Avenue. 8 p.m. $30-$35. 800-745-3000.
Not unlike his peer Norah Jones, Amos Lee crafts a similar kind of Starbucks-friendly fare, leaning more towards rhythm-and-blues versus Jones’ jazz and country base. Of course, having Jones ex-paramour/current bassist Lee Alexander produce Lee’s self-titled 2005 debut only furthered the comparisons. For his forthcoming fourth album, Mission Bell, the Philadelphia native tapped Joey Burns to produce a set that will also numerous guests, including Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson and Sam Beam (of Iron & Wine) with backup provided by Burns’s band, Calexico. Fans won’t get to hear the finished product until January of next year, so this intimate showcase will be your best shot until then. Or at least until Lee plays Nassau Coliseum opening for the Dave Matthews Band in early November.
