Nassau County police and state officials are investigating the death of a 4-month-old baby at a licensed Levittown day care center on Thursday.
Police said the 4-month-old boy apparently stopped breathing after being put down for a nap around 11 a.m. at the Kay Shriver day care center at 74 Pond Lane in Levittown.
The owner of the day care center called 911 and performed CPR, police said. The infant was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The infant’s name was not released.
Officials from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services were in Levittown Thursday afternoon investigating the incident, said OCFS spokeswoman Susan Steele. She said the state will make a determination on Friday as to whether or not they will suspend services at the day care.
She also said several staff members may not have been cleared by the state to work at the day care center.
