Today Julias Caesar is remembered not for his vital role in transforming the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire but for his death.
It was today back in 44 BC that Julias Caesar was killed by his own friends that he once pardoned. On the Ides of March, Caesar was due to appear at the Senate. Casca stabbed Caesar and then the whole group, around 60 were reported, joined in. Caesar was stabbed a total of 23 times killing him. As he fell to his death he saw Brutus among his conspirators and uttered his famous last words, “and you, Brutus?”
