Fronted by Amanda Palmer, who describes the duo’s sound as “something that goes from a childlike whisper to a banshee scream within a few seconds,” the Dresden Dolls are the reigning king and queen of punk cabaret. Palmer and band mate Brian Viglione have reunited after a two-year hiatus, when Palmer left to pursue Evelyn Evelyn, a concept album told through the perspective of Siamese twin sister circus performers. Since fans have waited with bated breath for any sign of a Dolls reunion, their kick-off show on Halloween night at Irving Plaza is bound to be an all-out freak fest, replete with stilt walkers and firebreathers. Then again, that’s just like any other Dresden Dolls show.
