Southampton Town Police arrested a Bridgehampton mom for child endangerment after she allegedly left her child alone outside in the cold on Friday evening.
Officers responded to a call of an abandoned infant in the parking lot of the Schmidt’s Seafood Market on North Sea Road in Southampton and upon arrival they found that 20-year-old Gilda Rojas had left her 4-month-old baby in a car carrier seat on the side of the building while she got into an argument with a man, police said.
“The baby was left alone for a prolonged period of time, exposed to the cold temperature, and was found crying by concerned neighbors,” police said in a statement. Rojas returned to the scene prior to police arrival, but was detained by concerned citizens.
Rojas and her baby were taken to police headquarters in Hampton Bays, where Rojas was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
