LI Gym Teacher Gets 18 Years in Bartender Rape

A Long Island gym teacher has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting he raped a bartender.

Michael Wachholder pleaded guilty last month in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead. He admitted that he attacked the bartender at a Mount Sinai tavern last February.

Following his arrest, the 30-year-old Wachholder was placed on administrative leave from his teaching job in the Three Village school district.

At the sentencing on Wednesday, Wacholder apologized to the victim and his family.
