A Rocky Point man was killed by a minivan driven by a Sea Cliff woman on July 18.

A Rocky Point man was killed today when he was struck and killed by a car as he rode his bicycle to work.

Suffolk police say Mauricio Carranza, 19, of 73 Prince Rd. in Rocky Point, was riding to work at a McDonald’s restaurant in Wading River when he was hit by a 2000 Toyota minivan driven by Karen Omara-Swett of Sea Cliff.

Omara-Svett was returning to the Schiff Scout Reservation with her two sons for a camping trip.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Rocky Point bicyclist.

Carranza was hit on Route 25A in East Shoreham at 5:59 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Omara-Swett was issued a summons for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree because her license was suspended.  She will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the accident to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
