Suffolk police have identified the two Brentwood men who were shot outside their home on Wednesday evening, one of whom died and the other who was hospitalized in critical condition.
David Sandler, 20, died as a result of his injuries and 20-year-old Aaron Galan was admitted to the intensive care unit of a local hospital, police said. Galan and Sandler are reportedly related through marriage.
Homicide Squad detectives are looking into possible gang involvement or if there is a connection to other crimes in the area and say it is unclear the victims knew the shooters, according to a Suffolk police spokeswoman.
The commissioner ordered additional patrols for the area, which has been hit with violence in the past, while the investigation continues.
Officers responded to the 911 call reporting that two men were shot on Timberline Drive in at approximately 8:15 p.m.
