Authorities have identified the school bus driver who was killed in a head-on crash with a construction vehicle that injured six people, including four children, in Locust Valley.
Nassau County police said Jorge Guevara, 45, of Locust Valley, was driving the bus westbound on Oyster Bay Road when an eastbound cement mixer truck crossed into the opposite lane of traffic at 3:15 p.m. Monday.
Guevara was pronounced dead at the scene. Three 6 year olds, a 9 year old and a 64-year-old man on the bus were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the 44-year-old man driving the cement truck had lost control of the vehicle after striking a Long Island Rail Road overpass near Matinecock Court. He was also treated and released from a local hospital.
The bus was reportedly taking the children home from Oyster Bay Town’s Group Activities Program for disabled children and young adults at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park.
Long Island Rail Road trains were temporarily suspended between Locust Valley and Oyster Bay after the crash.
Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
