A second suspect has been apprehended in connection with a North Valley Stream home invasion in which one of the assailants fatally shot himself during a shootout with Nassau County police officers last month, authorities said.
Police arrested Varinder Singh on Sunday and charged him with robbery and burglary.
Police said the 23-year-old man lives about a mile from the Dana Avenue home where he and two others allegedly broke in and were tying up the family inside when a police officer broke down the back door and rescued the family on Jan. 16.
When the officer ran back into the house, the shootout began and one of the suspects, 37-year-old Timothy Capers of Queens, shot and killed himself, police said. The two adults and four children who escaped were not hurt.
Singh and the other suspect, 47-year-old Levy Robinson of Queens, both fled the scene, police said. Officers apprehended Robinson shortly later.
Robinson is being held at Nassau County jail without bail on similar charges. He is due back in court on Tuesday.
Singh will be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
