Long Island typically experiences all four seasons. Within a year Long Island can feel the wrath of snow, rain and heat waves.
While places like Florida are known to get hurricanes, and Alaska is the spot for blizzards, Long Island is one of those unique areas that are open to a number of intense storm systems.
Throughout history Long Island has fallen victim to vicious storms and hurricanes.Whether it’s a hurricane that left the Island under water or a blizzard that buried us under snow, each storm has left its impact.
Some of the storms chosen happened as recently as a few months ago, while others happened before Long Island was even called Long Island. Some costs thousands of dollars worth of damage, and some changed the landscape of the area. All left their mark and won a spot in Long Island weather history.
There are many more that we don’t have listed here, because, hey, we get some wild weather around here, but we did our best to try and pick good ones.
So stock up on bottled water and batteries, get the snow shovels out and board up the windows (this would be in the event of a blizzacane, obviously) because Mother Nature can be cruel sometimes. If you don’t believe us, here are a few examples.
