Paul the Octopus, who became sensation by predicting the winner of this year’s World Cup, died Tuesday at the age of 2 1/2.
Paul the Octopus died in his tank at The Sea Life aquarium in western Germany of natural causes, a spokeperson for the aquarium said.
Paul the Octopus had retired after his final correct prediction in July.The aquarium has not decided how they will commemorate him yet, but mentioned the possibility of burying Paul at the site and erecting a shrine.
Paul also had an agent and Paul’s name will live on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where a permanent sea turtle rescue center funded in part by donations generated by the famous octopus is being established.
