When Tour de France champion Alberto Contador tested positive for clenbuterol in a drug test, he blamed it on a piece of steak, and some experts are saying it could be true. Clenbuterol is a drug that is used to increase muscle mass and reduce fats while boosting energy in a way similar to amphetamines. However, it is also given to cows, chickens and pigs to speed up the animals’ growth. Dr. Andrew Frankly-Miller, the team doctor for Britain’s rowing team, said he would have had to eat “vast quantities of meat” for the drug to have an affect on his performance…
A district judge in Intercourse, Pa. got into some hot water after he allegedly hid condoms inside acorns and handed them out to unsuspecting women in the state Capitol complex. Isaac H. Stoltzfus was charged with disorderly conduct, and officials said he told the police he handed out the acorns as a prank. First of all, let’s deal with the giant elephant in the room: The name of the town is Intercourse, and he was handing out condoms. So yes, it was completely inappropriate and insulting to hand these out to women. However, they are all living in a town called Intercourse…
Sometimes things are not black and white, and penguins are no exception. Researchers recently found a 36 million-year-old fossil of a penguin from Peru, and concluded the animal had feathers that were reddish brown and gray. They named the new species Inkayacu paracasensis, which means water king, and scientists say that the bird was nearly five feet tall. That’s twice the size of the Emperor penguin, which is the largest living penguin today (think Happy Feet)…
Chad Ochocinco is clearly a man who takes numbers seriously. Unfortunately, the makers of his cereal did not double check before they posted some numbers of their own. OchocinO’s, the Bengals receiver’s new breakfast cereal, has a request for donations to Feed the Children on the box. However, the phone number that’s on the box is not for the charity; it’s for a phone sex line. Instead of 1-888-HELP-FTC, the box reads 1-800-HELP-FTC, and what a difference those numbers make. Ironically, just days before this was discovered, Ochocinco posted this tweet: “order my cereal OCHOCINCOs. Start your day with a lil suga!!!”…
A new study shows pregnant breast cancer patients are more likely to survive the cancer than patients who are not pregnant. Researchers at University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston found 74 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy were still alive five years later, while only 55 percent of non-pregnant patients were. The research is still considered to be preliminary, and it is unclear why the pregnant patients had better survival rates…
Chippendales may be a hit with the ladies (who can resist those calendars, amirite?), but they clearly aren’t as successful in the courtroom. Last Friday, an appeals court ruled that the male erotic dancing company could not trademark their “uniform” of a bow tie and shirt cuffs. The court said the New York-based company failed to prove their “Cuffs and Collar” costume was distinctive. The fact that one of their expert witnesses acknowledged the outfit was inspired by the Playboy Bunny suit hurt the case even more. Chippendales filed the original trademark application in 2000…
