Four people, including one former and one current Town of Brookhaven employee, are denying that they illegally sold Hydrocodone, a prescription painkiller, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Anthony Gazzola, a former town highway department laborer, and Joseph Manzella, a town sign shop worker, both pleaded not guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance at First District Court in Central Islip.
Gazzola, 21, of East Patchogue, was already in Suffolk County jail after a judge set his bail at $100,000 following his arrest last week for allegedly burglarizing several homes in East Patchogue, Medford, Bayport and Blue Point.
He faced the new charge Thursday. Manzella, 28, of Mastic, was released on $10,000 bail after his Sept. 8 arraignment.
The other two suspects, 20-year-old Catherine Bright and 27-year-old Louis Gardella, both of East Patchogue, each pleaded not guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance Thursday.
Bail for Bright was set at $500 and bail for Gardella was set at $5,000.
Prosecutors said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko provided information to investigators last year regarding suspected illegal drug sales involving town employees.
Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota said additional arrests are expected.
