A Long Island animal rescue group is seeking volunteers as it plans to open a chapter on Staten Island to aid pets displaced, injured or separated from their families after Superstorm Sandy.
The not-for-profit Guardians of Rescue has aided 130 animals on Staten Island since the Oct. 29 storm.
Its president, Robert Misseri, told the Staten Island Advance that the group continues to get calls from pet owners. Some request help to foster their cat or dog because they’re now living where pets are not allowed.
He said many animals are in need of medical assistance because they ingested toxins from the floodwaters.
The group is seeking volunteers and donations to help care for all the animals.
