An East Hampton man allegedly smuggled a balloon full of drugs into Suffolk County jail when he was sentenced this week to a year behind bars for drugged driving.
Christopher Reale was found to have Suboxone strips and Methadone pills tucked in a balloon attached to a fishing line hidden in a body cavity, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office.
The discovery was made after the 32-year-old inmate was sentenced Tuesday at Suffolk County court to a year in jail following his guilty plea in October to a charge of driving while impaired by drugs, court records show.
East Hampton Town Police made the initial arrest May 4.
Reale now faces additional charges of promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Arraignment information was not immedately available on the new charges.
Suboxone and Methadone are medications commonly prescribed to treat drug dependance but are also widely abused.
