Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone’s top deputy is taking a leave from focusing on Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts to lead the commission investigating New York utilities’ preparation and response.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed Regina Calcaterra, an attorney, executive director of The Moreland Commission.
The panel’s co-chairmen are ex-New York Attorney General Robert Abrams and Benjamin Lawsky, Cuomo’s superintendent of financial services.
The commission, which also plans public hearings, says its next meeting, on Nov. 30, will be open to the public.
At its first meeting Tuesday, it established a subcommittee led by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice to investigate preparation and response.
Another subcommittee, headed by former Public Service Commission Chairman Peter Bradford, will review utility and regulatory structures.
