Suffolk police arrested the husband of a Lindenhurst school board member Saturday for allegedly providing alcohol to his 17-year-old daughter and her friends during a party at his Lindenhurst home on September 25.
Police say James Bartolomeo, 50, allowed his daughter to invite eight of her Lindenhurst High School classmates over to their house for a backyard gathering, during which Bartolomeo placed beer, Twisted Tea and Four Loko in the backyard for them. Bartolomeo stayed inside the house, according to police, but checked on the teens as they drank the alcohol.
Bartolomeo is the husband of Lindenhurst school board member Julie Ann Bartolomeo—who handed in her resignation on Wednesday amid allegations from a Lindenhurst resident that the party was held at her home, which led to her husband’s arrest three days later.
“The Board of Education has been made aware of information and allegations regarding Mrs. Bartolomeo in recent days,” the Lindenhurst school district posted in a statement on its website following the arrest. “The Board was then obligated to share this information with Suffolk County Police. Therefore, the district cannot comment further as this matter is now being investigated by the police. All other questions should be referred to the authorities.”
James Bartolomeo was charged with unlawfully dealing with a minor. He was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 7.
