A 26-year-old Nassau County jail inmate died after a fight with another inmate at the East Meadow facility on Saturday morning, police said.
Antwan Brown of Long Beach got into a fight with another inmate shortly before 8 a.m., police said. Authorities did not identify the suspect accused of killing him.
He was taken to neighboring Nassau University Medical Center with “contusions about his body” where he later died, police said in a statement.
The other inmate involved in the jailhouse quarrel could reportedly face charges. A corrections officer who answered the phone at the jail said he was not authorized to comment on the deadly fight.

Brown had pleaded guilty at Nassau County court to robbing a woman and assaulting a police officer just three days prior to his death. He was scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 8, according to court records.
He had been arrested in November 2010 shortly after beating a woman while stealing her purse in the parking lot of a White Castle in West Hempstead. Brown assaulted an officer later at a police stationhouse, police said at the time.
Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigating into Brown’s death.
