UCLA student Alexandra Wallace apologized for her YouTube video “Asians In The Library,” that sparked outrage after it went viral.
“Clearly the original video posted by me was inappropriate. I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would. I’d like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus. For those who cannot find it within them to accept my apology, I understand.”
In the video, Wallace complains about how Asians are rude and talk on their cell phones while others are trying to study in the library. She also claims in it that all the Asian people in her apartment complex have their entire families over every weekend to do their laundry and cook them meals. She even mentions the tsunami that just devastated Japan.
UCLA’s associate vice chancellor and dean of students Robert Naples said that he found the video “beyond distasteful,” and added that the school will be “taking a look at the language that she uses in the video to see if it violates any codes under student code, perhaps regarding harassment.”
