A 44-year-old Huntington man died and two others were hospitalized following an auto accident on Route 110 in Melville early Saturday morning, Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives said.
According to police, Christopher Klan, 44, of Brooks Avenue in Huntington, was pronounced dead at the scene near Snyder Street in Melville after his 2006 Chevrolet struck a 2008 Subaru driven by Kenneth Swany, 21, of Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills, as it passed in the right lane traveling north at 3:36 a.m.
Both vehicles spun out of control and overturned, said police, the Chevrolet landing in the southbound lane of traffic.
Klan was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Swany and his 21-year-old female passenger were transported to Huntington Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing, police said. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8239.
