Gov. David Paterson’s gubernatorial tenure may not go down in history among the greatest in New York State, but his memory will live on.
That is especially true in Hempstead, where Fulton Elementary School is being renamed in honor of Paterson, a former student of the school.
According to reports, officials voted to make the change last Thursday, and announced it yesterday, Saturday Dec. 18, at a festival attended by Paterson.
The renaming will take effect in September, some nine months after Paterson’s term ends on Dec. 31.
According to reports, a governor’s aide believes this is the first school to be named after Paterson.
