A Belfast filmmaker is saying that there is a time traveler in Charlie Chaplin’s “The Circus.”
Footage from the premiere, which was filmed in 1928, shows a woman talking a black object that appears to be a cell phone. George Clarke stumbled upon the video while watching the DVD extras for “The Circus.”
Clarke showed the clip at a film festival in Belfast and says that 100 people agreed that there is no explanation for this woman and her mysterious object. Clarke even thinks that the woman is a man dressed in drag, based on the fact that she is wearing a large overcoat and a hat that conceals most of her body.
If it is a time traveler, you have to wonder what how she is using a cell phone, since there were no satellites or tower in the 1920s. Other theories are that she is using a hearing aid or she’s just using your hand and it’s a shadow.
