A study funded by the National Institute on Aging’s Division of Geriatrics and Clinical Gerontology linked similar genetic signatures to whether or not a person lives a long life. They obtained the results after studying the genes of about 1,600 centenarians since 1995. More research is needed to verify the findings, and scientists still maintain that healthy lifestyles and other environmental factors clearly play a significant role in a person’s lifespan.

Don’t be surprised if you notice an increase of itching teens in NYC. A Hollister in SoHo has closed temporarily in order to rid the store of some unwanted customers: bedbugs. A spokesperson for Hollister said that only a certain area of the store was affected but some employees are saying that the blood suckers have been in the store for three weeks, and complaints by employees and managers were ignored at first.
Naomi Campbell has been known for many things, modeling, temper tantrums, but war crimes? The model has been subpoenaed to appear at the war crimes trial of Charles Taylor, the former Liberian president, to testify about a diamond he allegedly gave her. If she does not appear, she could be fined $510 and face up to seven years in jail. Prosecuters have complained that they have been tried unsuccessfully to contact her several times since they received information in June 2009 that Taylor had given her an uncut diamond at a 1997 reception hosted by Nelson Mandela. Her testimony could prove that Taylor had lied about when he testified that he never possessed rough diamonds.
Though it hardly makes up for the 18 years she was held captive by Phillip Garrido, Jaycee Dugard has been awarded a $20 million payment by the California Legislature. This was in response to her January claim that state parole agents had not adequately monitored Garrido, a convicted sex offender.
Toyota is recalling cars…again. The company announcing that it is recalling some of its Lexus models to fix an engine problem. According to a Toyota spokeswoman, 137,000 of the 270,000 recalled vehicles are in the U.S.
Our poor Lilo did not have a good start to her birthday. Lindsay Lohan tweeted on Friday July 2, her 24th birthday that she was punched by a waitress at the L.A. club Voyeur at 1 a.m. “A waitress just hit me- punched me for no reason,” she announced via the social networking site. According to witnesses, the waitress had a history with Doug Reinhardt, who was with Lohan, and did it out of jealously. Lohan ran out, but later on started crying after she ran into the waitress at the nearby Rockstar House. Probably not her best birthday.
Sergio Vega, a popular Mexican musican who went by the stage name “El Shaka” was shot dead hours after he gave an interview denying reports that he had been murdered. He was shot while driving his red Cadillac to a gig in the northwestern state of Sinaloa. According to his assistant, who was also in the car, Vega was finished off with shots to the head and chest after his car crashed. Hours before, Vega had dismissed assassination rumors to an entertainment website. “It’s happened to me for years now — someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I’ve been killed or suffered an accident. And then I have to call my dear mom, who has heart trouble, to reassure her.”
