A deli was robbed at knifepoint in Elmont on Monday morning, Nassau police said.
A man entered the Belmont Deli on Hempstead Turnpike, jumped over the counter and grabbed assorted scratch off lottery tickets at 8:55 a.m., according to 5th Squad detectives.
The robber then punched the store clerk in the face, pulled out a knife and demanded money, police said. The victim picked up a chair to defend himself and the robber fled on a bicycle northbound on Plainfield Avenue.
The victim was not seriously injured.
The suspect is described as a black man, 6’ tall, 200 lbs.
