Two Elmont men were arrested Sunday for a violent robbery that occurred on March 6, Nassau County police said.
A 45-year-old woman was riding her bicycle home from Belmont Racetrack on Hempstead Turnpike when she stopped to change a song on her MP3 player and was grabbed around her neck from behind by Jossue Esparza, 21, police said.
As Esparza held her, Jorge Blanco, 27, started to kick the left side of the victim as Blanco went through her pockets and took her pink Sony MP3 player and headphones, police said.
Esparza pulled the victim down to the ground and continued to punch the victim in the head and face before they both fled the scene, police said. The victim was taken to Franklin Hospital for treatment of a possible fractured nose, swollen eye, swollen upper lip, contusions to her forehead and possible concussion.
Fifth Squad detectives charged Esparza and Blanco with robbery and assault. They will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday. The MP3 player was recovered by detectives.
