A Suffolk County jury found a Farmingville man guilty on Monday of fatally choking a Suffolk County Corrections officer who was moonlighting as a bouncer at a Southampton bar last year.
Anthony Oddone, 27, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter after nine days of deliberations before Judge C. Randall Hinrichs at Suffolk County court in Riverhead.
The jury had been considering charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Oddone faces up to 25 years in prison for causing the injuries that killed 40-year-old Andrew Reister of Hampton Bays at Southampton Publick House on Aug. 7, 2008.
Reister had told Oddone to stop dancing on a table when Oddone held Reister in a choke hold and continued choking Reister until Reister was unconscious, Suffolk prosecutors said. Reister died two days later.
Southampton Village Police arrested Oddone, who fled the scene in a taxi, about a mile away from the bar.
