Cops: Bicyclist Stole Gear from Cars

by Patrick Kelton on December 12, 2009

A West Babylon man was arrested Thursday for breaking into cars and stealing electronics, New York State police said.

Aaron Lucas, 26, was found with three GPS units in their boxes, two MP3 players and was in possession of burglar’s tools, police said.

Troopers made the discovery when they found Lucas riding a bicycle on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near Wantagh Avenue, exit 28.

Police said he stole the GPS units from a parked car in Seaford and may have stolen the other items from another vehicle.

Lucas was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, possession of burglar’s tools and for operating a bicycle on the parkway.

Troopers located the owners of the GPS units but not the MP3 players.  Anyone who believes that their car may have been broken into in the Wantagh/Seaford area near the Southern Parkway recently is asked contact state police at 631-756-3300.
