A petit larceny turned into a robbery when two men stealing items at an Elmont drugstore assaulted an employee who tried to stop them on Tuesday afternoon, Nassau police said.
A 34-year-old man working at the Duane Read Pharmacy on Hempstead Turnpike, when he spotted two men hiding merchandise inside one of their jackets at 3:15 p.m., according to 5th Squad detectives. The victim called 911, locked the front door, confronted the subjects and demanded that the suspects hand over the stolen items, but instead both suspects pushed the victim and then pushed open the front door, causing damage to its lock and frame, police said.
As the suspects fled, the victim grabbed one of them by the back of his jacket. The robber swung tried to punch the victim, but the victim blocked the blow. Both robbers then fled into a waiting silver, four-door, late 1980s early 1990s sedan driven by a woman that fled southbound on Hill Avenue.
The first suspect is described as black man in his late 30s to early 40s, 6’ to 6’1” tall with a muscular build, bald head, clean shaven, dark complexion, Jamaican accent who was wearing. brown clothing.
