New York City and Fire Island party promoter Marc Berkley has died at age 56.
Berkley was a nightlife impresario who reigned as the king of gay dance parties. He also co-founded the gay magazine HX, which has since folded.
Berkley died Saturday on Fire Island. His former business partner Matthew Bank said Berkley died of an apparent heart attack.
Berkley hosted parties at clubs including the Palladium, Tunnel, Roxy and Limelight.
Bank said Berkley was a creative person who dedicated his professional life to trying to make people enjoy themselves.
Berkley’s survivors include two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
