A New York State police trooper shot and killed a driver following an altercation on the Robert Moses Causeway in West Islip on Sunday.
Police say the trooper was pursuing the driver at around 3:15 p.m. until they came to a stop over Captree Island. The trooper and driver got into some type of confrontation, the trooper opened fire, and the man died on the parkway.
The trooper was taken to a nearby hospital with a head injury and is in stable condition.
The shooting remains under investigation.
