A 69-year-old man has been accused of crashing his SUV into a motorcyclist and fleeing the scene near his Garden City home.
Nassau County police said James Gallagher was making a left turn from Linden Street onto eastbound Old Country Road when he struck an eastbound motorcycle and drove off at 9:20 a.m. Saturday.
The 29-year-old man riding the motorcycle suffered internal injuries and a partial amputation of his right foot. He was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Garden City village police arrested the suspect driving on a nearby side street.
Gallagher was charged with leaving the scene of a serious physical injury collision. He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
