owner: Patrick Waring, patrick@postalserv.com

Years in Business: 1.5

Business Description: PostalServ is a Mail and Parcel Center (MPC) and Business Center. We are a broad-spectrum domestic and international packing and shipping company serving the consumer, small business, and commercial needs. All the major carriers are utilized, including FedEx, UPS, DHL and USPS (United States Postal Service). PostalServ is an authorized Post Office with daily pick-ups. Support for LTI (less than truckload) freight and crating provided.

Our business services include: mailbox rentals; package receiving services; workstation rentals with Internet access (good for job seekers) and a full suite of Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, etc.); a copy center for black/white and color copies; fax services—incoming and outgoing; office and school supplies (that beat Walmart prices); laminating, binding, printing (business cards and letterhead); cables; batteries; greeting cards; and gift wrapping. There is a sign shop on the premises for vinyl banners, yard signs, lettering, and magnetic signs. We also have promotional products for clubs and businesses.

How did you get into this business?

Iworked in the IT (Information Technology) field for more than 30 years and decided I wanted to create a family run business that would be in a people-oriented service while still working with technology. While researching the industry I discovered Farmingdale needed a “soup to nuts” full-service personalized packing, shipping, and business center supporting the community. I wanted to create a company offering services that also addressed the everyday needs of my customers where I felt I could make a real difference in how those services would be supplied to them.

What is your favorite memory of doing  business on LI?

One of the most important experiences has been my discovery that it’s not just providing services covering broad needs, but that all my customers have enjoyed doing business with me. I have both enjoyed the relationship process and learning experience from each of them. The interaction with my customers has been phenomenal and allows me to provide a better all-around service.

How are you different from your competition?

Most other shipping centers are just that. They provide a single carrier service with a few business add-ons. PostalServ is a full service packing, shipping and business center. We ship with all the major carriers anywhere in the world. There are customers facing POS monitors that allow our customer to choose the service they would prefer instead of being offered only one carrier. We stock more than 40 different box sizes and if needed, custom-make boxes for specific needs. We sell US Postal Services and have afterhours pick-ups. We provide WiFi Internet access and have workstations for those without notebooks. We provide resume service/word processing services and always have sales to promote different products…And we support L.I. Discounts.

Who is the biggest celebrity you have ever served/done business with?

Well, I am still waiting for Jim Carrey the comedian to come in; that would be terrific.  John Basedow, a Long Islander, who created Fitness Made Simple, would also be great.

What is your best selling item?

All my extensive packing and shipping services, fax services and copy services.

Tell us about your website. Can people shop online?

PostalServ has a website for our customers to learn about our services. The site supports our digital services by allowing files to be uploaded to our server. We can then format, print copies, bind, laminate and ship off to any location. The site also provides a map and driving directions to our store on Main Street. Online shopping is coming in the near future.

What is your favorite thing about living on LI?

Water and beaches. Community-based people and events all year.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

Portofino in Levittown and Terry G’s in Farmingdale.

Hamptons or Fire Island?

Fire Island.

Do you have an LI accent?

I was born, raised, and lived on Long Island my whole life. I most definitely am a Long Islander with an accent!

Billy Joel, Mariah or Run DMC?

Sorry Billy, it is still Eric Clapton.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
