One injured soldier got a surprise of a lifetime after musician Kid Rock and others surprised him with a new home last week.

The rocker presented the custom-built suburban Detroit house to Army Sgt. Davin Dumar and wife Dana in a model replica of the home on Saturday. The couple had thought that they were just going to be interviewed for placement in the program when they arrived.

The home will be built by Pulte Group in Macomb County’s Macomb Township, and should be completed sometime early next year.

Dumar lost a leg and injured his arm during a tour in Afghanistan in 2011. The 26-year-old was chosen by Texas-based nonprofit Operation Finally Home, an organization that builds homes for wounded veterans and widows of deceased service members.

Founder Dan Wallrath decided to build a house in Michigan after meeting Rock, a native to the state.

“We are all grateful for your service to our country,” Rock said during the surprise presentation, according to the Detroit News.

Dumar was equally grateful to the musician. “He’s a great guy,” he told the Daily Newson Sunday. “Everything he does for the military is great, and I have a whole new respect for him.

The Dumars said that once the house is built, they plan to renew their vows and start a family.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
