Islip Town Hall Evacuated After Bomb Scare

Islip Town Hall was evacuated following a bomb threat Thursday morning.

Islip Town Hall was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning after someone called in a bomb threat—the third bomb scare at the building since November.

A spokeswoman for the town said everyone was allowed back into the building at 12:10 p.m., but she couldn’t comment on the investigation.

A Suffolk County police spokeswoman said the call was placed just before 11 a.m. Police responded and immediately evacuated the building.

Islip officials said the 911 call came from a pay phone in Central Islip. The anonymous caller told police that a bomb would go off at 11:35 a.m.

Suffolk’s emergency service unit and K-9 officers investigated the scare. Nothing was found, police said.

The incident is still under investigation.

The bomb scare comes just one week after someone called in a threat to Long Island MacArthur Airport, which is run by Islip Town.

Back in November, someone called in a bomb scare at Islip Town Hall that turned out to be a false alarm. The call came from a pay phone in Central Islip.

Islip received a second warning in January when a man called in a threat from a pay phone around 10 a.m. Again, nothing was found.

In that case, the same caller also threatened the Suffolk County Department of Social Services in Hauppauge.
