Falling Into Long Island Restaurant Week

by Licia on November 10, 2011

So, you’ve just landed the one date you’ve been trying to land for the past few months—and thinking outside the bun just won’t cut it. Consider yourself lucky, because the Sixth Annual Fall Long Island Restaurant Week has arrived, giving diners a chance to snag a deal at the Island’s top eats.

“If you’re single, you could go out on a couple of dates during Long Island Restaurant Week and not break the bank,” says Steve Haweeli of Wordhampton Public Relations. “Everyone is on a budget.”

The event kicked off Nov. 6 and will continue until Nov. 13, giving daters eight days of delicious dining deals.

But Restaurant Week isn’t just great for singletons, it gives all residents a taste of Long Island’s top cuisine and much-needed relief on the check.

“It’s simple—everyone loves a deal,” says Haweeli. “And Long Islanders love to eat out. With the proliferation of foodies on Long Island, it only makes sense. Upscale eateries are, of course, very popular.”

And there sure are a lot of awesome choices. Huntington’s hip Honu Kitchen & Cocktails and popular Portuguese restaurant, Fado; Greenport’s famous Claudio’s Restaurant and Jericho’s exclusive Philippe Chow, are among the hundreds of eateries participating.

“We’ve always had well over 200 restaurants,” says Haweeli. “This year we have 246 restaurants.”

All participating restaurants will offer a three-course prix fixe for $24.95 all night (except Saturday when it will be offered only until 7 p.m.) with each restaurant offering its own unique menu.

And Long Island Restaurant Week doesn’t just to benefit budgeted Long Island foodies, it also helps promote the participating restaurants to new customers.

“Every restauranteur spends money on marketing to get people in the door with the premise being, ‘if people come here and try our food, experience our service and décor—they’ll be back,’” says Haweeli. “Long Island Restaurant Week does just that: get people in the door. The rest is up to the restaurant.”

A Light, Steamed Fish Dish With Big, Bold Flavors

by Associated Press on December 27, 2012
The first time I had to test a recipe for steamed fish was back in the ’80s, when I was working in the test kitchen at Gourmet magazine. And truthfully, the very idea seemed preposterous. Steaming anything over water had always struck me as boring. [...]

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
