Jack The Cat Found at JFK

After an almost two-month long search, airline workers have found the famous “Jack the Cat.”

Jack was found in John F. Kennedy airport’s customs room, and was immediately taken to a local veterinarian, American Airlines said in a statement.

The feline had been missing since August 25, right before Tropical Storm Irene hit the area. Owner Karen Pascoe checked both Jack and her other cat, Barry, on the flight from New York to San Jose. A short while later the airline informed her that Jack was missing.

Pascoe’s desperate search for her pet led to a “Jack the Cat is lost in AA baggage at JFK” Facebook group to “help us put pressure on AA to step up their efforts,” who she felt were not doing enough to to find him. The group, which has more than 16,000 fans, helped initiate Jack the Cat Awareness days, a pet Amber Alert and efforts to keep animals out of cargo.

American Airlines has said that they’ve conducted massive searches, set humane traps, reviewed video surveillance footage and handed out flyers to all airport employees in an attempt to find Jack. They also said that they held daily briefings on the feline where they tried to brainstorm new ways to track him down.

According to the Facebook page, the runaway kitty is stable but will remain at the vet for the next 3-5 days. He’s developed a fatty liver disease which occurs when a cat has been without food for an extended period of time, and is being fed through a nasal tube.

Even though American Airlines offered to fly Jack home, Pascoe has decided to come back to New York to retrieve him.

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party.
