Long Island Press has won 23 New York Press Association Awards, including Top Prize. And the Long Island Press is also a Finalist in the national Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards.

At the recent New York Press Association’s 2010 Better Newspaper Contest, held at the Gideon Putnam Hotel & Conference Center in Saratoga Springs on April 8 and 9, the Long Island Press brought home 23 awards.

The Press earned honors across 14 categories, winning 13 First Place awards and clinching the competition’s top prize, the Stuart C. Dorman Award for Editorial Excellence. The contest drew 2,634 entries from 171 newspapers in the Empire State.

Among the accolades, Press Senior Writer/Editor – Investigations Christopher Twarowski racked up nine honors; four First Place—Best News Story, Best In-Depth Reporting, Best Coverage of the Environment and Best News or Feature Series—for his three-part investigative series into environmental missteps and managerial malfeasance at Nassau County’s two major sewage treatment plants. Press Staff Reporter Jaclyn Gallucci took home five honors, including First Place for Best Feature Story; she and News Editor Timothy Bolger shared the top nod for Best Coverage of Crime/Police/Courts. Senior Editor Spencer Rumsey earned three honors, as did Staff Writer Rashed Mian. Press Publisher Jed Morey won First Place for Best Column; Associate Publisher Beverly Fortune also ranked in the column category.

The Long Island Press also claimed the top spots for Overall Design Excellence, Best Use of Multimedia, Best Graphic Illustration, Best Special Section Cover and Best Special Sections. It was also awarded First Place for NYPA’s Past Presidents’ Award for General Excellence.

The Press has also earned national distinction in a separate contest. Press investigative reporter Christopher Twarowski and photographer/videographer Joel Cairo have also been recognized as finalists in the annual Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Awards. The national competition recognizes outstanding investigative work by publications and media outlets from across the country.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
