Scream Awards Honor Horror, Sci-Fi

Horror, sci-fi and fantasy movies seem to make up a majority of the films that land in theaters, but those genres are often poorly represented at awards time.

The Scream Awards is something of an attempt to correct that imbalance. Now in its fifth year, the 2010 Scream Awards not only featured some of Hollywood’s highest-grossing movies, but many of its most exciting stars, including Halle Berry, Kristen Stewart, James Cameron, Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke and more. All were in attendance at Spike TV’s 5th Annual Scream Awards, held last night at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards show also serves as something of a gathering and test market for the Comic-Con crowd, where footage of hotly anticipated new films (such as Scream 4) is screened.

Last night’s awards ceremony was a wild, over-the-top affair, at which Christopher Nolan’s Inception took home six awards. When Bill Murray accepted the award for Best Horror Film, for Zombieland, he appeared in his Ghostbusters costume, to wild applause.

Among the premiere screenings were “Paranormal Activity 2″ and  “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.”

Pop star M.I.A. also performed.

The Scream Awards will air on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 19 at 9 p.m. Some of the awards given out last night include the following:

BEST VILLAIN: Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko in “Iron Man 2”

BEST COMIC BOOK OR GRAPHIC NOVEL: “The Walking Dead”

BEST FANTASY ACTRESS: Kristen Stewart, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”

BEST HORROR ACTOR: Alexander Skarsgard, “True Blood”

BEST HORROR ACTRESS: Anna Paquin, “True Blood”

BEST FANTASY MOVIE: “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”

BEST HORROR MOVIE: “Zombieland”

BEST TV SHOW: “True Blood”

BEST DIRECTOR: James Cameron, “Avatar”

Book Review: Green, By Jay Lake

by Long Island Press on October 9, 2009
The cover of fantasy writer Jay Lake’s newest novel is eye-catching: a sprite-like girl hanging upside-down, face bloodied, looking fierce and holding a sword. In a rare case, the content of the book is an exact mirror of what that picture conveys.

Wedding & Event FAQ
Q- Does the flower girl have to wear white or ivory to match the bride?

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party. If you choose for her to wear white or ivory, you can accent the dress with the bridal party color sash or appliqué. She can also wear the color of the bridal party and to differentiate her, you can add a white or ivory sash. Choose something that you feel will coordinate best with the rest of your bridal party.
