Sha Na Na, the group that shared a stage with Jimi Hendrix 40 years ago and made Danny Zucko move in Grease, had a partial reunion to celebrate Hofstra’s 75th anniversary celebration.

“It feels so natural that I just have not had as much fun or felt in harmony with anybody since,” said Robert Leonard, a professor at Hofstra University who, in 1969, helped form Sha Na Na. Leonard, along with David Garrett, a businessman in NYC, and Elliot Cahn, former manager of Green Day, make up the group’s formation doo-wop-ing Hofstra.
Along with Sha Na Na, performers on the bill include Public Enemy, Blue Oyster Cult, Fountains of Wayne, Lisa Lisa, and hip-hop star Trey Songz.
Leonard says the show is “being billed as from doo-wop to hip-hop.”
“This is a delight; I left in 1973,” said Cahn, who is now 62. “The last two times I sang in public were at memorial services for friends of mine who died.”
Sha Na Na also had its own variety show, titled Sha Na Na, which ran for 97 episodes from 1977 to 1981.
