A Long Island toddler has escaped serious injury after his father was hit by a minivan as the two were crossing a bridge on foot.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department says 2-year-old Braydon Dorsa was thrown from his father’s arms Tuesday night. The boy’s father, 27-year-old Ronald Dorsa of Mastic Beach, died in the crash.
Emergency officials were tending to Dorsa when they heard cries coming from the nearby woods. They followed the sounds and found Braydon in a pile of brush.
Paramedic Peter Jakubowski saw Dorsa get hit by the van but never saw the boy in his father’s arms. He says Braydon’s only injuries appeared to be scrapes on his head.
Braydon was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center. A hospital spokesman says he was in good condition Thursday.
