Suffolk SPCA officials are trying to find this bird, last seen in Sag Harbor, and the person responsible for shooting it in the head with a blow dart.
Authorities are searching for a pair of seagulls on eastern Long Island that have been impaled and the person responsible.
Suffolk County SPCA received reports Thursday of a seagull impaled with an arrow on East Main Street in Patchogue but when investigators arrived, it was gone.
In a separate incident, a seagull was seen wandering on The Long Wharf in Sag Harbor with a dart stuck in its head. SPCA officials believe was fired from a blow gun. The bird was walking along the wharf but flew away when approached.
Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross called the cases disturbing and said anyone who sees the birds should call the SPCA at 631-382-7722.
“We have experts ready, willing, and able to help these birds,” Gross said.
The two cases are the fourth and fifth such wildlife abuse incidents in the past month.
Officials said a man killed a seagull with a large rock in Montauk over the weekend, someone shot an arrow through a swan in Riverhead on July 22 and a turtle was found with a nail driven through it in Sag Harbor on July 5.
