National Doughnut DayThe first Friday in June marks the day that people everywhere can enjoy a chocolate, vanilla, glazed, sprinkled, or frosted doughnut. National Doughnut Day has been celebrated for 73 years since the Salvation Army began the tradition in 1938 according to Yahoo!.

Although both Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts offer the special it’s anything but free at Dunkin Donuts. In order to participate in the freebie at Dunkin you must buy a beverage not including the bottled drinks according to Dunkin Donuts.

Krispy Kreme does stay true to the holiday offering doughnuts for free with no purchase necessary from 6am to 6pm. The franchise has been around about just as long as the National Holiday opening its doors in 1937 according to their website.

The doughnut frenzy has people lining up to get a taste. The holiday has people less worried about their financial guilt and more concerned about how to get their hands on more than the designated one per person free doughnut.
