Rapper Cassidy was arrested this weekend and is a suspect in a Philly murder case.
The rapper Cassidy, born Barry Reese, was reportedly arrested in Hackensack, New Jersey on Saturday for violating his probation but has become a suspect in a murder case. The murder reportedly took place in Reese’s hometown of Philadelphia.
According to 24hourhiphop, during a surveillance in front of Cassidy’s house, police were dispatched immediately when the rapper was seen vacating his residence around 1:30 p.m. to stop at a nearby local convenience store. The report goes on to reveal that after confirming his identity during a routine felony motor vehicle stop, they arrested the rapper and brought him into custody. Timothy Lloyd of Hackensack police commended the officers for doing “An outstanding job’ in the safe and secure apprehension and stated that the rapper was “very surprised” upon arrest.
MTV reported that Reese will be held at the annex and undergo extradition to Philadelphia to face questions from investigators handling the murder cases.
This isn’t the first run in with the law for the rapper. On April 15, 2005, Cassidy and two others were involved in a shooting which Desmond Hawkins dead. A few months later, Cassidy was arrested on several charges including murder, attempted murder and other charges. He was reportedly convicted of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime for his involvement in the shooting and sentenced to 11 to 23 months in jail plus probation. The rapper was released from Pennsylvania’s Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility only eight months later.
The rapper became famous with his 2004 album, Split Personality. From this album, came hits, “Hotel” and “Get No Better.”
