Melo Jerseys Arrive on Long Island Thursday

by Rashed Mian on February 23, 2011

If you’re in New York City looking for a Carmelo Anthony jersey, you’re too late.

Three Modell’s stores across Manhattan received Adidas replicas of the highly anticipated No. 7 Anthony jersey, and all three sold out of the $44.99 jerseys in less than an hour.

Times Square, Herald Square and the E 42nd street locations received the jerseys, and two of the stores sold out in 15 minutes, according to Rich Lampmann, the Director of Marketing for Modell’s.

But don’t worry Long Islanders more jerseys, and shirts are coming your way.

On Thursday, Long Island stores will receive a significant quantity of Anthony T-shirts as well as black and orange replica jerseys. Lampmann said it is not clear what time stores will receive the merchandise because they will be coming in “waves.”

“We’re going to get what we can and quickly as we can for the fans,” Lampmann said of the demand for Anthony merchandise.

After seeing how fast the jerseys flew off the shelves on Wednesday, he believes Thursday’s shipments won’t stay in the stores for too long.

“We think that whatever we can get in tomorrow is probably going to go, just based on what we saw today,” Lampmann said.

The demand for Knicks merchandise slowed down over the years due to their poor play, but since Amare Stoudemire signed with the Knicks this season that all changed.

“[They’ve] done very well actually. When Amare was signed you can see a big reaction from fans,” Lampmann said. “And just where they’ve been this season overall, its probably been our best season in recent history with the Knicks.

There will be Mens and Womens T-shirts, and they will be available in all sizes.

As for those who are waiting for the Reebok replica instead of the Adidas version, Lampmann said it is still unclear when the Reebok version will hit stores.
