The rumor that Heath Ledger’s Joker will be returning for The Dark Knight sequel has officially been squashed.

“I heard the rumor. We’re not doing that,” director Christopher Nolan and wife/producing partner Emma Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter. They made no mention of who would play the villain in The Dark Knight Rises.
A “source” had previously said that Nolan would use fragments of cut scenes and CGI to give the late Ledger a quick cameo.
