Michael Douglas: Michael Douglas on Cancer Recovery, Future Roles

Michael Douglas has announced that he will play the title role in Steve Soderbergh’s “Liberace,” and will soon learn if he is cancer free.

The 66-year-old was diagnosed with throat cancer in August. He told weekly Hollywood Reporter that he will learn in January if he is cancer free. Doctors have told him that there is an 80 percent cure rate.

The actor said that his bout with cancer brought him closer to father Kirk Douglas who he described as angry and absent growing up. He also said that the illness helped him with his relationship with his son, Cameron, and taught him the importance of family.

“Liberace” is scheduled to begin shooting in May or June
